A Bit About Me

Photobucket

My name is Andrew Poe, most call me Poe. I am an avid marksman, precision reloader, and enjoy working on my own firearms. I shoot because I enjoy the challenge, and enjoy building my skill with my firearms.

I am an A.S.E. Certified Master and Advanced Automotive Technician. I’ve been repairing cars for many years now and currently work at a local Honda dealership. I enjoy the satisfaction I get from a job well done and the knowledge that I have helped someone with their vehicle. I plan to stay in the automotive field for now, but when the time is right I will transition into the firearm business. I have begun that journey by becoming an NRA Certified Basic Pistol Instructor, and I have plans to further pursue instructor's level certification. My long term career goals include opening an outdoor/reloading/shooting/gun store, and opening a large shooting center with a 1000 yard rifle range, a 300 yard rifle range, and several smaller pistol and shotgun ranges. This website and my instructor's level certification are the first steps towards those goals.

I have had an interest in rifles and shooting ever since my dad gave me my first pellet rifle at the age of 12. Shortly after I turned 18 I purchased my first “real” gun, a Rossi takedown .22lr/ .410 shotgun. As my experience, skills, and income have grown I’ve purchased several more rifles and handguns, including a Henry U.S. Survival Rifle, a Stevens Model 200, the classic Ruger 10/22, and lastly the infamous Remington 700. Most of my earlier guns were small calibers, .22lr’s or .223 Remington. My Remington 700 is chambered in .308 Winchester and it is without question the go to gun for me. I am building this gun to compete in F Class T/R Competition and to use as a hunting rifle.

Shooting is my passion; it challenges me to improve myself and my skills. I usually round up my shooting equipment and my guns about once a week and head out to the range. Most of my shooting at this point in time is done at the local 100 yard range in the National Forest. It serves as a test facility for my loads, my skills, and my modifications. The people I meet at the range are friendly and courteous, the facility is very nice, and best of all it’s free. Unfortunately the range is only 100 yards, and my true interests lie in long range shooting (out 1000 yards). Within the next month or so I will be seeking a membership at The Palmetto Gun Club. The Palmetto Gun Club is the largest shooting facility in my area, and the only one with an 800 yard range. I am also getting more into hunting, especially whitetail deer. I enjoy a venison steak as much as anyone so many hunting trips are in my future. (For a good read about quality hunting make sure to check out Score-Your-Hunting.com.)

I reload because it involves me deeper with my shooting passion. I am able to custom make my ammunition for my rifle and tune it to my needs. Reloading also lowers the cost of ammunition and makes it easier to shoot more. I enjoy the science behind figuring out which loads will work well for my rifle and why. By combining my passion for accurizing rifles, shooting, and reloading, I feel that I am able to truly master my shooting.

As a lifetime member I strongly endorse and support the NRA because they support and defend our right to keep and bear arms. The NRA also does much in the way of encouraging newcomers to the sport to both shoot safely and shoot better. The NRA is a group that is truly looking out for your interests as a shooter, hunter, or all around gun nut. I encourage you to support the NRA by joining the NRA or renewing your NRA Membership.

I encourage you to also sign up with your state's gun rights organization, but please make sure you do your research on any group before you join. Some anti-gun groups pose as pro-gun because they realize that more people are pro-gun. Support your rights, and make sure any groups you join do to.

If you have any questions or comments on rifles, shooting, reloading, or this website please contact me.
